August 11, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
San Angelo Saints News Release

San Angelo, TX-The San Angelo Saints of the Central Hockey League today announced the signing of player-assistant Dan Hodge for the 2004-05 season.

Hodge, 6'3" 220-pounds, was a ninth round draft choice of the Boston Bruins in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. He spent the majority of his career with the Peoria Rivermen of the East Coast Hockey League. In six seasons with the Rivermen, he tallied 50 goals, 123 assists and 231 PIMs. With the ECHL and United Hockey League, Hodge notched a total 54 goals, 140 assists and 258 PIMs in 399 games.

"Losing Derek (Booth) was tough, and to be able to fill that role so quickly is encouraging," said Saints Head Coach/Assistant General Manager Ray Edwards. "Dan is outstanding on the ice and understands what we want to accomplish this season."

A native of Melrose, MA, Hodge began his career with Merrimack College of the NCAA. In four years, the defenseman contributed 17 goals, 47 assists and 124 PIMs to the Warriors. After college, he played with the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League, registering a goal, 7 assists and 12 PIMs. In the AHL and IHL, Hodge scored 6 goals, 14 assists and registered 28 PIMs in 49 games played.

"I've been trying unsuccessfully to find a coaching position, and I'm excited about this opportunity," said Hodge. "I have known Ray for about nine years and we have the same philosophies about the game, so the transition shouldn't be too hard."

Hodge will fill one of the player-assistant roles for the 2004-05 season. Edwards has a successful program with four former player-assistants now in head coaching roles. Former Saints assistant coach Derek Booth is now in charge with the Fayetteville FireAntz. Other "Edwards Alum" include Tracy Egeland of the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees, Butch Kaebel of the Tulsa Oilers and Jim Bermingham of the Knoxville Ice Bears.

"The proof is in the pudding," said Hodge. "His record speaks volumes about him as a person and as a professional. I'm ready to get to San Angelo and get to work."

With over 260 games played, Hodge qualifies as one of four veterans the CHL allows per team and he stands as the third under contract for the upcoming season joining Andy Doktorchik and Steve Roberts. Overall, Hodge is the eleventh player signed by the Saints for the upcoming season. Head Coach Ray Edwards is available and can be reached for interview by contacting Jessicca Hallmark with the Saints.

The puck drops October 22 as the Saints host the Laredo Bucks in the first game of the 2004-05 season. Season tickets and corporate partnerships are now available by calling the Saints office at (325) 653-9577.
