St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN â The first snows of winter may be in the air soon but the St. Paul Saints are already thinking about the 2005 baseball season.
The team announced today an eight-game pre-season schedule that includes five games at Midway Stadium. The defending Northern League champs will face longtime rival Winnipeg four times â the first time these teams have ever played a preseason series â and will play Sioux Falls and Fargo-Moorhead twice each.
"The preseason set the tone for a great regular season last year," said Derek Sharrer, Saints' Executive Vice President/General Manager. "Having five home games will give us plenty of chances to get ready â on and off the field."
St. Paul opens training camp May 5 under manager George Tsamis. Their first game is set two days later when Sioux Falls visits Midway Stadium for a 3:05 p.m. game. The Canaries come back the next day as well followed by a pair of games with the Goldeyes.
The Saints will face the Redhawks â the team they defeated in the North Division playoffs last year â on Friday, May 13 at Midway. St. Paul then finishes the preseason with a pair of road games at Winnipeg and a game at Fargo.
The 2005 regular season opener is May 20 at Midway against the team St. Paul defeated in a thrilling five championship series, Schaumburg. The remainder of the 96-game schedule will be announced shortly.
