April 28, 2003 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
San Angelo Saints News Release

SAN ANGELO – The San Angelo Saints are excited today to announce the hiring of Ray Edwards as the team's new Head Coach and Assistant General manager. Edwards' hiring comes at the end of an exhaustive search for a replacement for the departed Brent Scott who resigned at the end of the 2002-03 season.

Edwards comes to San Angelo after several seasons as a head coach in the East Coast Hockey League. He began his coaching career with the Huntington Blizzard of the ECHL in 1998-99, and led them to their most successful season in franchise history the following year. Edwards also has several of his former recruits playing in the National Hockey League. Prior to his coaching career, Edwards played 8 seasons in the ECHL with the Dayton Bombers, Birmingham Bulls and Huntington Blizzard. He still holds two franchise records for Huntington – single season penalty minutes (330) and career penalty minutes (790). He also attended NHL training camps with Los Angeles, Chicago and Ottawa.

"The Saints are extremely pleased to be able to acquire a coach with the outstanding qualities that Ray will bring to our organization," said Saints President Jim Cook. "He has had success in recruiting players in markets similar to San Angelo and has all the qualities we were looking for in our head coach. He is a tireless worker, he has a keen sense of what is needed to be successful on the ice, and is a family man that will make all the fans of the Saints proud".

"I am very excited about the opportunity to work with Mr. Cook and the city of San Angelo," said Edwards. "Mr. Cook has done a tremendous job of turning this franchise around and I am looking forward to being part of a great organization".

A native of Wasaga Beach, Ontario, Edwards is married to Leesa and has two children, Holden- age 2 1/2 and Raechel- 10 months old.

His playing and coaching numbers can be found at www.hockeydb.com.
