San Angelo Saints News Release

SAN ANGELO – The San Angelo Saints today announced the signing of veteran forward Steve Roberts who will be in the line-up for this week's games against Memphis and Austin. Roberts began his pro career with the Dayton Bombers of the East Coast Hockey League in 1995 and has also played 21 games in the higher level AHL and IHL. He spent the last four seasons playing in the British Super League and the British National League. His career totals include 174 goals and 113 assists (287 points) in 297 games. His best season was 1996-97 when he scored 47 goals and 26 assists (73 points) in 62 games for the Dayton Bombers. Last season he notched 42 goals and 26 assists in 39 games in the BNL.

Roberts replaces forward Jamie Thompson on the Saints' roster. Thompson was billed as the biggest signing of the off-season by Saints Head Coach Brent Scott, but was injured early in the season and then seriously injured in his first game back. Thompson has been placed on the Season Ending Injured Reserve and ends his season with 3 goals and 1 assist in 6 games.

"I'm very disappointed for our organization and for Thompson," said Saints Head Coach Brent Scott. "We had high hopes for what Thompson could do in a Saints uniform this season, but I'm most disappointed for him that he won't be able to play any more this year. We certainly wish Tommy the best in recovering his health."

With the addition of Roberts the Saints will suit 17 players for this week's games, the first time the team has been able to suit that many players since the 4th game of the season. Also this week, both Saints games on Thursday and Friday will feature appearances by Santa Claus. Fans can get their pictures taken with Santa and skate with Santa after each game. And, any fan that brings in 2 canned goods to the Saints office or to the coliseum on game-days can get a coupon to skate with Santa for free after either game. All food items will be donated to the Salvation Army. On Friday, the first 2,000 fans will also receive a free Saints Team Picture courtesy of Fox Auto Services and professional entertainer Claude the Trumpeteer will also perform during Friday's game.
