St. Paul Saints News Release
FARGO, ND - The St. Paul Saints showed a comeback nature in their second exhibition game of the season that could come in handy when the regular season starts next week. Unfortunately, a play at the plate ended the game with the Saints on the short end of a 5-4 loss to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks Friday night at Newman Outdoor Field.
With the Saints trailing 5-2 going into the ninth Brad Boyer and Craig Brazell walked with one out. With two outs Willie Cabrera doubled home both runs to cut the deficit to one. Joey Becker then lined a single to center field, but Cabrera was thrown out trying to score the tying run.
Danny Gutierrez got the start for the Saints and was able to pitch out of a first inning jam where he walked three. Gutierrez pitched a perfect second inning striking out two, but gave up two runs in the third on a two out RBI single by Tim Alberts and an RBI double from Keith Brachold.
The Saints tied the game in the fourth when Dan Kaczrowski led off with a single and Jose Hernandez knocked him home with a double to cut the deficit to 2-1. Hernandez would score on a Brazell single tying the game at two.
The RedHawks took the lead in the fifth when Buddy Sosnoskie singled, moved to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a ground out and scored on an Alberts ground out. Saints pitcher Matt Bruback pitched 3.0 strong innings allowing one run on three hits while walking three and striking out two.
Billy Spottiswood and Dustin Klabunde each allowed a run in 1.0 inning of work for the Saints.
The Saints play two games on Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. game against the North Star League All-Stars on Delano's Municipal Field. Following that game the Saints will head back to Midway Stadium for a 7:35 p.m. game against the Gary SouthShore Railcats. It is an Umpireless Game presented by Hamline University.
