December 10, 2013 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)
Saint John Riptide News Release
(Saint John, NB): The Saint John Mill Rats have added a key piece to their championship aspirations in shot blocker extraordinaire, Damian Eargle from Youngstown, Ohio - pending FIBA clearance.
"I scouted Eargle in college the last three years when he played for Youngstown State," said Mill Rats Head Coach Rob Spon. "He is a great shot blocker & very athletic and for a team that is last in the league in blocks, he is exactly what we need."
Eargle holds the Horizon League All-Time blocked shots record despite playing only three seasons at YSU. He was named the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year in 2012-13 with 102 blocks (3.2 per game average). He also averaged 11.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.
The Bleacher Report (January 20, 2012) named Eargle one of the ten best shot blockers in all of college basketball, and ranked him between Gorgui Dieng (Louisville) and Fab Melo (Syracuse).
To make room for Eargle on the roster, the Mill Rats have released Eric Petty Jr.
The Mill Rats next game is at Moncton on Thursday December 12th. This weekend is a doubleheader of home games: on Saturday December 14th at 7PM they play host to the Windsor Express, and on Sunday December 15th at 4:00PM play the Moncton Miracles.
Single game, season & flex tickets are still on sale at the at the Harbour Station Box Office by calling 506-657-1234.
