Saguenéens' Christopher Gibson Named CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON - The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Christopher Gibson of the Chicoutimi Saguenéens is the CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending October 11. Gibson won both of his starts posting a 2-0-0-0 record including one shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 1.00 with a save percentage of .972.
Gibson began his week on Wednesday night at home against the Moncton Wildcats where he earned his first win of the season by a score of 4-2. He put forth an incredible effort stopping 44 shots including 18 in the third period to earn first star of the game honours. On Sunday he continued his strong play backstopping the Saguenéens to a 1-0 shutout win over the Montreal Juniors. He made 26 saves to earn his first career QMJHL shutout as first star of the game. The shutout win was the second straight recorded by the Saguenéens as Robin Gusse also shutout the Shawinigan Cataractes 1-0 as first star of the game with 27 saves on Friday night.
Gibson, a 16-year-old Finland native, is in his first QMJHL season. He was selected 16th overall in the 2009 CHL Import Draft and is eligible for the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
Also considered for the award this week was Jason Missiaen of the OHL's Peterborough Petes for posting a goals-against-average of 1.50 with a save percentage of .961 earning one win in two starts with 74 saves. Justin Leclerc of the WHL's Kamloops Blazers went 2-0-0-0 with a goals-against-average of 1.14 and a save percentage of .953 making 41 saves to also receive consideration.
