March 9, 2012 - Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL)
Saginaw Sting News Release

SAGINAW, MI - Playing for the Saginaw Sting has become "comfortable" for former Midland Dow and Saginaw Valley State University start linebacker John Jacobs. The 6-foot-2, 235-pound former two-time SVSU All-American recently re-signed for his second season of professional indoor football with the Sting and looks forward to another productive season.

"I'm just happy to be able to continue and play here (locally)," said Jacobs, who has formed a close-knit bond with Sting management over the past year. "I'm happy to continue to have fun and play with the guys I played with last year. I feel more comfortable here than I would going somewhere else - it's probably because I know the players. It's nice."

"It makes things more exciting and a little bit easier." Jacobs, a 2005 Dow grad, played for Team USA in the 2011 International Federation of American Football Senior World Championships in Austria. He helped lead USA to a 3-0 record in pool play, recording 5.5 tackles in a 61-0 win over Australia. He forced a fumble and recovered one in a 17-7 win over Mexico.

In other news, the Sting have promoted Defensive Coordinator Fred Townsend to Head Coach following the resignation of Vince Leveille due to time commitments.

The Sting open their season Sunday, March 18 against the Chicago Vipers at The Dow Event Center in Saginaw. Tailgate begins at 3 p.m., with kickoff set for 4:30 p.m.
