Sting 57, Blitz 23: Saginaw rolls past Chicago for third straight win
SAGINAW, MI - Saginaw bucked its trend of slow starts on the road Sunday, May 3 against Chicago when the Sting opened up a 14-0 lead in the first and closed in convincing fashion for a 57-23 win.
With their third straight league win, the Sting improved to 3-2, while the Blitz fell to 4-2.
Saginaw opened the scoring in the first quarter with AJ McKenna connecting on a 17-yard touchdown pass with Daryl Gooden at 6:57 of the quarter, and DeShawn Hayes plunged in from 5 yards out for a 14-0 advantage going into the second quarter.
Julie Harshbarger kicked a 28-yard field goal to get Chicago on the board in the second, but Saginaw answered with a 28-yard touchdown pass from McKenna to CJ Tarver with 6:46 left in the half.
On the ensuing kickoff, Joshua McIntosh launched the kickoff deep into the Chicago end zone. The Blitz failed to return it out of the end zone for a rouge, which awarded a point to the Sting making it 22-3.
The two teams then traded touchdowns in the second half with Bryant Pascascio running in a 1-yard touchdown. Dominique Banks threw a successful two-point conversion to David Brown.
McKenna and Tarver hooked up on another touchdown pass with nine seconds left in the half for a 29-11 lead.
In the third quarter, Dominique Banks threw a pair of touchdown passes to Brian Milles, while McKenna threw a 12-yard scoring strike to Alex Evans.
It was all Saginaw in the fourth with Tarver scoring touchdowns on a pass from McKenna and an interception that he took back 42 yards for a score. Hayes capped off the win with a 1-yard plunge late in the fourth.
