Safeway and Golden Baseball League Team on New Youth Programs

Dublin, CA, April 25, 2008. : The Golden Baseball League (GBL) and Safeway Inc. today announced three new joint marketing programs as part of Safeway's Presenting Sponsorship of the GBL. Dubbed the School Angels, Kids Club and Little League Grand Slam programs, these initiatives will provide tickets, educational stimuli, affordable family entertainment and fundraising opportunities for grade school and Little League programs in cities and towns in western North America.

"I am excited that this partnership continues to extend Safeway's ability to give back to our local communities, children, and families" said Mike Minasi, President of Marketing for Safeway. "Safeway recognizes that thriving communities are important for our business and we want to do whatever we can to contribute to the quality of life in our markets and to support and enrich the development of children."

The Safeway School Angels Program provides a way to honor teachers and students for classroom activities through free tickets and on-field honors at GBL games. It also includes a school-specific fundraising aspect where schools can benefit from ticket sales to families of their students. Another component of the School Angels program is a School District Fundraiser Game that includes ticket revenue going to the School District and special events at the ballpark including memorabilia auctions. The Little League Grand Slam Program includes free clinics, discounted tickets, special group fundraising and sales programs, and the ability for the kids to participate in special on-field programs at GBL games. The Safeway Kids Club program provides tickets a Kids Club Membership at half price to all Safeway Club Card holders. The Kids Club benefits include free admission to all of the local team's games, a free Kids Club t-shirt, and the thrill of being on field at the end of the game for all Kids Club members to run the bases. The local economic impact of these programs is estimated to be approximately $100 - $200K per market.
