SAFC Postgame Quotes

SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell:

(Overall thoughts on the match...)

"The way our guys played and worked hard in the end, we deserved at least a tie. We had several chances before the tying goal, but it was a good goal to get. There were a lot of good performances from our players tonight, so I am very pleased with that. Again, this group of guys shows that character to keep fighting, and as a coach, you are very proud of that."

(On making changes throughout the game...)

"You make changes to impact the game and sometimes they work and sometimes they don't work. That is just part of what you do. We changed the formation a little bit towards the end of the game to maybe get us some more opportunities."

(On the equalizer late in the game...)

"It was an interesting game because the league has pitted an Eastern Conference team and a Western Conference team so whoever gets the points affects two conferences, especially within the last weeks of the season. It makes it very interesting and intriguing because we're both fighting for the same thing but not in the same league, or conference."

(On the close race for the top seed... )

"We said this in March, every point is very valuable in the league, because when it comes to this point of the season, those points are impactful. Sometimes you get a draw and you feel like it's a point earned in the end, sometimes you draw and you feel like it's a couple of points lost. What you can't fault is the application of players to keep working hard until the very end to get a point for this club. We know every point is very important and we've got six to play for in the next week, so we'll focus on the three Wednesday."

San Antonio FC defender Greg Cochrane:

(On the late equalizer...)

"It shows our fight. We're getting close to playoffs now...it just shows we're going to fight down to the last whistle."

(On playoffs approaching...)

"It was good that we battled back even though there was only a couple minutes left, I don't think we ever really panicked. We have a bunch of experienced guys that know all it takes is one chance. Luckily Ever came in and put away a good one after a good cross by Billy."

(On the opportunities passed...)

"You know that's been happening to us a little bit lately, where we think we're going to score and then we just don't and goals dry up, but that's just the way of the game. You just have to keep shooting, and hopefully one ball bounces your way and luckily, today it did."

San Antonio FC defender Sebastien Ibeagha:

(On the playing in front of the home crowd...)

"It was great, I think now the players and myself, we don't expect anything else from our fans. It's always loud, they make it tough on the other team and we're just used to it and we love it. That's the whole point of fighting for the home field advantage - you're home, you have your own fans, they're loud, they have your back and you just push forward."

(On the team's mentality...)

"We showed it tonight, even though we go 1-0 down late in the game, we can still push with nine, ten, seven minutes left and get a goal, - a crucial goal. So, in the playoffs we'll have overtime as well, which will push us on to that last 20 minutes."
