
Sacramento Sirens Dominate Road Game Against San Francisco StingRayz

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (March 16, 2003) â The Sacramento Sirens, Sacramento's professional women's full tackle football team, defeated the San Francisco StingRayz at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco 62 â 26. The Sirens remain undefeated in 2003 and look to continue their domination for the rest of the season.
With 12:43 remaining in the first quarter, the StingRayz capitalized on a Sirens interception with a 37 yard run by StingRayz RB Pashen Bagsby. The StingRayz' 2-point conversion failed, leaving the score 6-0 StingRayz. On the following Sirens possession, the StingRayz recovered a Sirens fumble to start on offense for the second time. Sirens DB Robin Sanchez quickly intercepted a StingRayz pass which lead to a 1 yard run touchdown by FB Lisa Giblin. Kicker Nancy Stoner's point-after kick was good taking the score to 7-6 Sirens. The Sirens on-side kick was recovered by the Sirens which lead to a 30 yard touchdown pass from QB Chantelle Powers to TE Sarah Trobee with 3:16 remaining in the quarter. The Sirens 2-point conversion failed taking the Sirens lead to 13-6. On the next StingRayz possession, Bagsby completed a 43 yard run for another StingRayz touchdown. Bagsby's 2 point conversion was good, ending the first quarter with a score of 14-13 StingRayz lead.
In the second quarter, the Sirens defense held the StingRayz offense to a total of three first downs. The Sirens capitalized on the StingRayz lack of offense by scoring twice in the second quarter: a 3 yard run by FB Lisa Giblin and a 3 yard run by HB Julie Wicher. A 2 point conversion by Wicher and a point after kick by Stoner were both good allowing the Sirens to enter the locker room with a 28â14 lead. The Sirens dominated the first half in time of possession as well with 18:28 to the StingRayz 9:39.
In the third quarter, the StingRayz were forced to punt after being held by the Sirens defense. After driving her team down the field, Sirens QB Chantelle Powers ran for a 1 yard touchdown with 10:19 remaining in the quarter. Stoner's point-after kick was good, increasing the Sirens lead to 35-14. The StingRayz quickly answered back with a pass from QB Renee Robinson to WR LaTanya Bradford. The StingRayz 2-point conversion failed, taking the score to 35-20 Sirens. The Sirens fumbled on their next possession but the StingRayz were unable to capitalize and were forced to punt the ball back to the Sirens. Sirens QB Leilani Limary entered the game, drove the offense down the field and scored a touchdown on her own with a 12-yard run with 5:18 remaining in the third. Stoner's kick was good increasing the Sirens lead to 42-20. On the following possession, the StingRayz drove down the field and scored on an 8 yard run by Bagsby. The 2-point conversion failed and the score at the end of the third quarter was 42-26.
In the fourth quarter, the Sirens capitalized on key mistakes by the StingRayz. An interception by Sirens player LB Joyce Brown, lead to a 3-yard run by Wicher early in the quarter. Stoner's point-after kick failed and the Sirens lead increased to 48-26. With 9:05 remaining in the game, Sirens DB Denise Grandison intercepted a StingRayz pass leading to a 3-yard run touchdown by Giblin. Stoner's point-after kick was good increasing the Sirens lead to 55-26. The StingRayz final possession ended with a turnover on downs, leading to Limary's second touchdown of the day. Limary's 5-yard run and Stoner's point-after touchdown finished the Sirens scoring of the day.

The Sirens return home this Saturday, March 22 to play the Santa Rosa Scorchers at Capital Christian High School at 1:00 PM. This game is Student and Senior Appreciation Day where students with a valid ID and seniors 62 and older will be admitted for only $5.00
Season Tickets are still available at all Sirens practices at 7:00 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Capital Christian High School or the day of the game. Season tickets are $75 for adults, $50 for seniors and students and $25 for youths age 10-18 and are valid for all 2003 home games plus free parking.
