Sacramento Sellout Highlights USL PRO Weekend Schedule
Published on June 6, 2014 under United Soccer League Championship (USL) News Release
TAMPA, Fla. - Sacramento Republic FC is set to welcome another sellout crowd of more than 20,000 fans in its final game at Hughes Stadium on Saturday night in one of the highlights of this weekend's schedule in USL PRO. The expansion franchise is set to host fellow expansion side Arizona United SC in the second meeting between the teams as it breaks through the 75,000 attendance barrier for the season.
Sacramento's success at the turnstiles in its inaugural season has been matched on the field, as Republic FC enters Saturday's game on a four-game winning streak that has moved it into fourth place in the league standings. Two of those victories came at Hughes Stadium, but Saturday's opponents will offer a challenge after having taken a 2-1 win at the Peoria Sports Complex in the first meeting between the teams on April 19, a victory that was United's first in club history.
Other highlights on this weekend's USL PRO schedule include a special night in Richmond, Virginia on Saturday as legendary Richmond Kickers goalkeeper Ronnie Pascale is honored for his outstanding career with the club. Pascale is the Kickers' all-time appearance leader, having donned the gloves more than 300 times for Richmond and claimed three USL Goalkeeper of the Year awards in his 13-year career.
Orange County Blues FC will also welcome a pair of U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame members as it hosts the Dayton Dutch Lions on Saturday at Anteater Stadium, with Paul Caligiuri and Joy Fawcett set to be on hand five days ahead of the kickoff of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Caligiuri was the scorer of the "ËGoal Heard "ËRound the World' that earned the United States Men's National Team a berth at the 1990 World Cup, while Fawcett was part of the United States Women's National Team that won a pair of World Cups and two Olympic Gold Medals.
The action kicks off on Friday night as the Wilmington Hammerheads host OKC Energy FC at Legion Stadium looking to extend their four-game winning streak. Energy FC includes a trio of former Hammerheads players, including leading scorer Kyle Greig and vice-captain Gareth Evans, who will be hoping to take victory against their former side and build on a victory against the New York Red Bulls Reserves last Saturday night.
