2007 Sacramento Monarchs

Capital to Capital - 2007 WNBA All-Stars

After a victory against the Minnesota Lynx on July 1, Monarchs Head Coach Jenny Boucek was announced as the 2007 WNBA All-Star Western Conference Head Coach. Assistant Coaches Tom Abatemarco, Monique Ambers and Steve Shuman will also head to Washington DC to represent the Monarchs in the Nations Capital.

WNBA fans worldwide voted former WNBA MVP and 2005 WNBA Finals MVP Yolanda Griffith as a starting center for the 2007 WNBA All-Star Game. Griffith will make her fourth appearance as a starter; she was also honored as a starter for the 2001, 2005 and 2006 All-Star Games. This game will mark Griffith's seventh All-Star selection and the WNBA's eighth All-Star Game.

As selected by the WNBA's Western Conference Coaches, Rebekkah Brunson has been chosen as a reserve for the 2007 WNBA All-Star game. A native of Washington DC, Brunson will make her All-Star debut at Verizon Center.

- Yolanda Griffith scored a game and season-high tying 21 points on 9-of-14 shooting. She also grabbed six rebounds and three steals.

- Nicole Powell tallied a team and career-high tying nine rebounds. She also scored seven points on 3-of-10 shooting.

- Kara Lawson dished out a season-high six assists. She also tallied eight points in 22 minutes off the bench. As a team, the Monarchs stole the ball a season-high 17 times; including a season-high four times from guard Scholanda Dorrell.

- Taj McWilliams-Franklin scored a team-high 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting. She also added 10 rebounds giving her seven double-doubles for the season.

- Recent All-Star MVP Katie Douglas scored 11 points on 4-of-17 shooting. She also added six rebounds.

- As a team, the Sun turned the ball over a season-high 26 times, turning into 20 points for the Monarchs.

July 28, 2006 at Connecticut Sun - L, 68-75 (Mohegan Sun Arena)

- After winning a franchise record tying seven straight games, the Monarchs have lost their last three games.

- Nicole Powell led the Monarchs with 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including a career-high tying 5-of-7 from behind the three-point line.

- DeMya Walker came off the bench with a season-high 15 points on 7-of-15 shooting. She also added seven rebounds and three assists.

- Erin Buescher and Rebekkah Brunson also added double-digits for the Monarchs with 13 and 10 points respectively.

- Katie Douglas led the game with 19 points on 6-of-19 shooting, including 4-of-11 from behind the arc.

- Taj McWilliams-Franklin tallied a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds.

- Lindsay Whalen also scored in double-digits for Connecticut with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including 3-of-5 from three-point land.
