SAN JOSE, CA - On Tuesday, November 22, the SaberCats volunteered their time at Second Harvest Food Bank by preparing 4,625 pounds of food for the holidays. SaberCats in attendance included QB Mark Grieb, OL Robbie Powell, LB Francis Maka and WR Samora Goodson.

By the end of the day, the SaberCats had boxed nearly 200 boxes of food that would be shipped for distribution to thousands of people during the holidays.

"It is so rewarding to know that we contributed to the work of Second Harvest Food Bank in bringing meals to those who would otherwise be without food during this holiday season," said SaberCats QB Mark Grieb. "Being able to help during this time will hopefully further the goal of Second Harvest in ending local hunger."

Players and staff were in attendance to help unload food donated by families across the Silicon Valley. Second Harvest of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties is the trusted leader dedicated to ending local hunger. Since its inception in 1974, Second Harvest has become one of the largest food banks in the nation, providing food to an average of nearly one quarter of a million people each month.

"I always like to stay active in the community and Thanksgiving is always a great time to get involved," said SaberCats OL Robbie Powell. "It was great to work with Second Harvest Food Bank and we look forward to working with them in the future, hopefully."

The Food Bank mobilizes individuals, companies and community partners to connect people to the nutritious food they need. Nearly half of the food distributed is fresh produce. Second Harvest also plays a leading role in promoting federal nutrition programs and educating families on how to make healthier food choices.
