San Jose SaberCats News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Arena Football League and the San Jose SaberCats announced today that Nich Pertuit has been named the Smitty USA Kicker of the Year. This is the first time Pertuit has earned this award. Last week, Pertuit was also named to the First-Team All-Arena Offense, his second career All-Arena selection.
"We are very proud that Nich has earned this award," said Owner and Head Coach Darren Arbet. "He was incredibly consistent, and delivered in big situations for us all season."
Pertuit (5-11, 195, UIW - San Antonio) was a true weapon this season, topping the AFL in most individual kicking categories during the regular season. He led the league with 128 extra points converted, total points scored with 155, points per game with 8.6 in addition to going a perfect 9-for-9 on field goals. From April 26th to June 14th, Pertuit converted an incredible 47 straight point after attempts. Pertuit also converted all 15 of his extra point attempts during the postseason and both of his field goal attempts.
Pertuit is the second kicker in SaberCats franchise history to earn this distinction. In 2008, A.J. Haglund took home the Kicker of the Year Award after leading all AFL kickers with 179 points scored and a league-high 21 field goals made.
