CHICAGO - The Arena Football League office announced today that San Jose SaberCats kicker Nich Pertuit has been named Smitty USA Kicker of the Year and LA KISS quarterback J.J. Raterink has been awarded the Al Lucas AFL Pulse Hero Award for his philanthropic efforts throughout the 2014 season.

Pertuit (6-0, 195, Incarnate Word) finished the 2014 regular season with a League-leading 155 kicking points. The four-year veteran converted on a League-high 128 PAT tries and was a perfect 9-of-9 on field goals. He also earned First Team All-Arena honors for the first time in his career this season.

The Al Lucas AFL Pulse Hero Award is presented annually to the player who makes the most significant contribution to both his community and the game of Arena Football. The award was created in honor of Al Lucas, the late Los Angeles Avengers lineman who believed in both giving back to his community and growing the AFL.

Raterink (6-2, 210, Wyoming), a five-year veteran of the AFL, visited the Children's Hospital of Orange County during the season, where he interacted with several young patients. Raterink makes it a priority to be a role model in the community and participates in as many charitable events as he can. With the KISS in 2014, he completed 211-of-382 passes for 2,335 yards and 38 touchdowns.
