SaberCats in the Community

San Jose SaberCats News Release

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The SaberCats are looking to set a new standard for community involvement.

"We want to be as passionate about our community and our fans as they are about us" said Owner/Head Coach Darren Arbet. "Professional sports programs have an opportunity and a duty to serve the youth in its community. We, as a program, want to strive for a championship with everything we do. That includes how we give back to schools and nonprofit organizations. When our SaberCats players and SaberKittens look into the eyes of these boys and girls, it is clear the affect they have on them. The SaberCats play for their fans, so we are trying to replicate the effort they give us every game by getting out and giving back to our community any way we can."

Each day of the week, SaberCats players have been getting out to local schools to teach the youth about literacy, reading and fun. While teaching the importance of reading is the main goal of these visits, SaberCats players have also had the opportunity to share their knowledge about life as an athlete, the significance of good grades in school, and the impact of community togetherness with the students.

Last week, the team visited St. Christopher's, St. Justin's and Bracher Schools, grades Pre-Kindergarten through third, to read short stories and answer questions. The team is raising the bar by making a massive drive to become involved with every single school in the area and is looking to give back to the people who have given the organization so much over the years.
