SAN JOSE, Calif. - The SaberCats announced today that they have been assigned two players; 2012 Second Team All-Arena and former Tampa Bay Storm offensive lineman George Bussey and former Milwaukee Mustangs defensive lineman Justin Lawrence. The Arena Football League's open free agency period opened on Monday Nov. 5.

"Being able to add talented players like George and Justin is what we strive for," said Owner/Head Coach Darren Arbet. "We are happy to bring both of them to the Bay Area and feel that they provide us with great depth and experience."

Bussey (6-4, 310, Louisville) spent the 2011 and 2012 seasons as a member of the Storm. He earned Second Team All-Arena accolades last year and appeared in 14 games, all starts, for Tampa Bay in his two previous AFL seasons. In addition to being an anchor along the offensive line, the Louisville native also factored into the passing game a bit, hauling in five passes for 56 yards. A fifth round pick (170th overall) by the New England Patriots of the National Football League in the 2009 draft, Bussey spent parts of two seasons in Foxboro. He earned a scholarship as a walk-on at Louisville, where he was a key component to the Cardinals offensive line from 2005-08.

Lawrence (6-2, 290, Morgan State) spent the past two seasons with the Mustangs, posting 41.5 total tackles, three sacks, an interception and two fumble recoveries in 31 appearances. The Virginia native was a key component of the Mustangs defense in 2011 under current SaberCats defensive coordinator Cedric Walker. In addition to his work defensively, Lawrence also scored 12 touchdowns (six per season) on 36 carries as a fullback. Prior to his time in the AFL, Lawrence was invited to a mini-camp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2010. He played for four seasons at Morgan State. He earned All-MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) honors in both 2008 and 2009 as a junior and senior for the Bears.
