Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, MI.--- The two-time reigning Colonial Cup Champions of the United Hockey League, the Muskegon Fury have announced today the player assignment of right wing RYAN KELLER to the club from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins.
KELLER, 21, is a first-year pro, embarking on his rookie campaign following a star-studded four-year Major Junior âA' career in the WHL with the Saskatoon Blades. The 5-10, 186lb forward was attending the Grand Rapids training camp and recently had inked a two-way contract with the Griffins which included the UHL Muskegon clause. The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native did not see any service in any of the Griffins four games of the embryonic 2005-06 AHL season.
The newest member of the Fury brings to the Muskegon championship hockey landscape a prolific portfolio replete and complete with high-scoring point proficiency and productivity. Case in point, in three of his four seasons with his junior squad, he was the Blades premiere scoring impresario. Last season, in the 2004-05 campaign, he registered 73-points in 67-games on a team-best and career-high 40-goals, coupled with 33-assists while collecting 63-PIM. His 40-goal output represented a personal career high and ranked as the top goal-scoring number of 2004-05 for all players originally listed on the Grand Rapids training camp roster.
As far as overall total scoring numbers are concerned, Keller's best season for the Blades occurred in 2003-04 when he amassed 79-points in 66-games on 38-goals, 41-assists, along with 101-PIM. In that same season, he was especially potent in the playoffs, firing 7-goals in just 6-games; 6(7-1-8) 8-PIM. For his entire four-year career, Keller generated a prolific 237-points in 257-games on 120-goals, 117-assists with 281-PIM.
With today's roster addition of Keller, the Fury Director of Hockey Operations / Head Coach Todd Nelson has released two players from his early season roster. First-year goaltender Dave Rathjen and third-year right wing Brandon Doria have both been placed on training camp waivers effective immediately.
Presently, the Fury roster lists 20-players; two goaltenders; KEVIN LAPOINTE, CLAYTON POOL. Six defense-men; BRETT ANGEL, TREVOR JOHNSON, STEVE O'ROURKE, JOE POMARANSKI, DAVE VAN DRUNEN, CLAY WILSON. Twelve forwards; ROBIN BOUCHARD, BILLY COLLINS, RUSTYN DOLYNY, KEN FELS, JOHN HARTMAN, NIGEL HAWRYLIW, RYAN KELLER, JASON LAWMASTER, JEFF NELSON, TODD ROBINSON, DAVID WRIGLEY, BILL ZALBA.
The Fury launch their quest with zest of becoming the first team ever to capture custody of three consecutive coronation crowns on home ice this Saturday night, October 22nd, at 7:30 pm when they clash with Eastern Division rivals, the Elmira Jackals at Walker Arena. The opening night bonanza extravaganza will feature Colonial Cup IV, the raising of three more championship banners, emblematic of the Central Division, Tarry Cup and Colonial Cup crowns and the presentation of the Fury's latest championship rings. In addition, the Fury will wear special championship jerseys which will be auctioned next Tuesday night, October 25th at 7:00 pm at Buffalo Wild Wings in Muskegon.
