Tupelo FireAnts News Release
The Tupelo FireAnts are pleased to announce an addition to the 2003 coaching staff. Effective immediately, former first year FireAnts player Russell Copeland has been named the team's new offensive coordinator.
Copeland, a Tupelo native, was a fourth round pick in the 1993 National Football League Draft for the Buffalo Bills after wrapping up a stellar collegiate career at the University of Memphis. Copeland played several seasons with the Buffalo Bills, Green Bay Packers, and Philadelphia Eagles during his six-year NFL career.
A member of the inaugural FireAnts team in 2001, along with being named one of the top receivers in the National Indoor Football League for his efforts, Copeland will now focus his energies on the FireAnts offense.
"Russell has an outstanding offensive mind," Head Coach John Gore said. "Copeland will be able to give our players the preparation and insight into a game he is extremely familiar with as we look to beef up our offensive output and gain some wins."
The FireAnts take on the Beaumont Drillers this Saturday at the BancorpSouth Center in Tupelo starting at 7:05pm. For more information, call the âAnts at (662) 620-2483.
