Rapid City Rush News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - On Wednesday night, the Rapid City Rush and Colorado Eagles faced off at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in what was another epic finish. Once again, goaltenders Tim Boron and Kyle Jones squared off, going save for save. Despite being on the road for the decisive game #7, the Colorado Eagles received late heroics from captain Riley Nelson who potted the lone goal of the contest with just 1:48 left in regulation. Nelson's tally lifted his team to the Presidents' Cup Finals, ending Rapid City's 2010-11 campaign.
The Rush heavily out-chanced the Eagles and held an 18-12 shot advantage in the opening frame, but stellar goaltending Kyle Jones kept the game scoreless.
In the middle frame, the Eagles turned the table, outshooting the Rush 12-5. Once again however, the goaltender was up to the task as Tim Boron stood tall in net.
The final period was about as even as possible, but the Eagles finally broke the scoreless tie with only 1:48 remaining in the game. After a missed shot from Daymen Rycroft, the rebound came to the left side of the net where Nelson slammed it passed Boron for the game-winner.
The game was clean with the Rush going 0-for-2 on the powerplay while the Eagles came up short on their lone opportunity.
