Rush return four key players
November 1, 2006 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Edmonton Rush News Release
EDMONTON, AB- The Edmonton Rush have brought back much of their heart and soul from last year with the re-signing of four players for the 2007 National Lacrosse League season.
Jamey Bowen, Teddy Jenner and Buck Stobart have all signed new one-year deals while Darren Hillier has agreed to a new two-year contract.
"We see these guys playing a much more important role this year," said A.J. Jomha, the Rush's Director Lacrosse Operations and Assistant Coach.
"We had a very young team last year that gained a valuable year of experience and combined with players like these four, the whole team is looking forward to reaping the rewards of everyone's hard work."
Highlighting the foursome is Edmonton product and NLL veteran Jamey Bowen. The 37-year-old led the Rush in scoring in 2006 with 43 points in 14 games. Ten of Bowen's 19 goals were notched on the power play and he added two shorthanded tallies.
While he did consider retirement at the end of the Rush's inaugural season, Bowen is excited to return to the new-look Rush and the team is looking forward to having him back in the fold.
"I think Jamey is in a much better position this year because he's a guy that makes other players look better by the way he can feed the ball," noted Jomha.
"Jamey will be setting up players like Chris Gill, Dan Stroup and Jason Wulder who are finishers and that is going to be of great benefit to him and the whole team."
Along with Bowen, the Rush is pleased to have fellow local product Darren Hillier back in the mix. Hillier, who joined the Rush after playing parts of two seasons with the Calgary Roughnecks, appeared in 14 games during the Rush's first year in the NLL, scoring five goals and adding four assists.
Like Hillier, Ted Jenner returns to give the Rush some spunk from the transition position. In 15 games last year with the Rush, Jenner racked up two goals and five assists and was often a catalyst for the team's quick breakouts. This past summer, Jenner played in 18 games for the Victoria Shamrocks of B.C.'s Western Lacrosse Association, registering 11 goals and 12 assists for 23 points.
Shoring up the defence is Buck Stobart, who was limited to just 11 NLL games last season due to injury. For the Rush in 2006, Stobart scored one goal and chipped in four assists. Stobart returned to form during the B.C. summer season, scoring seven points and adding 47 penalty minutes in 16 games for the WLA champion Victoria Shamrocks.
