Chicago Rush News Release

An MRI exam performed Monday on Chicago Rush quarterback Raymond Philyaw revealed a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and a sprained medial collateral ligament (MCL) in the QB's right knee, the team announced today. Philyaw suffered the injury on a 16-yard scramble early in the second quarter of Saturday's AFL semifinal game in San Jose.

Philyaw will undergo surgery later this month and is expected to need four to six months for a complete recovery.

"Monday's MRI confirmed our initial diagnosis," said Rush team doctor Raj Khanna. "Raymond will begin his rehab immediately after his surgery, and I expect him to make a full and complete recovery in time for the start of next season."

After signing as a free agent last October, Philyaw became an integral part of the Rush, helping to lead the team to an 11-5 record, the Central Division title and the AFL semifinals. During the regular season he connected on 247 of 389 passes for 3,053 yards and 52 touchdowns, while only throwing four interceptions. In addition, Philyaw rushed for 57 yards and a career-high 11 touchdowns.
