Brooklyn Aviators News Release

BROOKLYN, New York - The Brooklyn Aviators announced today that defenseman Jarrett Rush has been named the new team captain. The second-year Aviator will debut the 'C' tomorrow night against the Cape Cod Bluefins.

"Jarrett is a player that I trust both on and off the ice," said Aviators head coach/team president, Rob Miller. "We needed a captain and he is a guy that has been stepping up for us all season."

Rush has played in all 20 games for the Aviators this year, and has nine assists with a +4 rating.

"[Rob] gave me a call last night and told me he was going to name me captain," said Rush. "I was a bit surprised, but it is definitely an honor and I look forward to it."

The Pennington, NJ native takes over for former captain Steve Obelnicki, who is out of action due to a season ending knee injury he sustained back in November at Danbury.

"I'm not going to be changing too many things up, but obviously guys are going to look at me a bit more for that leadership role," Rush said. "It is very meaningful for me to wear the 'C' and I am excited that I'm getting the chance to do it this year."

In addition, Brooklyn has named rookie forward Andrew Owsiak and veteran defenseman KC Timmons as the team's two assistant captains.

"Andrew has been with us from the start, and has earned it with the way he carries himself both on, and off, the ice," Miller added.

Owsiak, a first-year forward for Brooklyn out of Dartmouth College (NCAA 1), also has skated in all 20 games for the A's this season.

"I really didn't see it coming to be honest, so it's nice a reward especially in my first pro year," Owsiak said. "I came in here with the mindset of doing whatever I need to do to help the team, and it's a real honor to get a letter."

The Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan product leads the Aviators in points (22), assists (12) and is tied in first with 10 goals.

Timmons, who served as Brooklyn's captain last season, has 12 points in 18 games for the Aviators this season.

The Aviators welcome in the Cape Cod Bluefins for a two game home stand starting on Thursday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:35 PM and can be viewed live via the FHL broadcast network, powered by LiveSportsVideo.com. Great tickets are still on sale and can be purchased by calling 718-758-7580, or logging onto www.brooklynaviators.com, TODAY!!
