Rush Kick Off Minor Lacrosse Registration

Edmonton, AB-- The Edmonton Rush and the Greater Edmonton Lacrosse Council will kick off the 3rd Annual GELC City Wide Registration for the summer box lacrosse and field lacrosse registrations on February 22.

The 3rd Annual GELC City Wide Registration is set to take place on Sunday, February 22, 2009 at Rexall Place, from 12 noon to 4:00 p.m. All GELC member clubs in the Edmonton and greater Edmonton area will be represented at the registration making it an easy way for anyone wanting to register. All registrants attending the lacrosse registration day at Rexall Place will receive a complimentary game voucher from the Edmonton Rush valid for the Sunday, February 22 game at 6:00 p.m. against division rivals the Colorado Mammoth. All registrants will also be eligible for a draw sponsored by United Cycle for a $200.00 gift certificate to be used towards the purchase of lacrosse equipment - there are eight certificates to give away and each of the eight clubs will be making one draw.

Last season the GELC had over 1,900 kids play lacrosse and in Alberta over 8,500 players took to the floor to play the game. Since the Edmonton Rush played their inaugural season in the city of Edmonton three years ago, an increase in lacrosse registrations has occurred.

"Last year registration numbers increased, this year we anticipate a high increase, the interest in the game of lacrosse is growing and we have received numerous inquiries regarding registration." states Keith Talbot, President of the Alberta Lacrosse Council and Past President of the GELC.

"The fact that the city has a professional team in the NLL, has definitely increased awareness about the game of lacrosse, kids want to play lacrosse because of the Edmonton Rush."

The City Wide Registration Day and Tournament being held on February 22 is our way to recognize and show our support to minor lacrosse in Edmonton and the surrounding areas" said Duane Vienneau, President, Edmonton Rush.

The Greater Edmonton Lacrosse Council has eight clubs, Wizards, Warriors, Titans, Rebels, Blues, St. Albert Rams, Crush and Westlock. The minor box lacrosse sessions starts the end of March and runs until the second week in July and minor field lacrosse sessions run during the months of July and August.

The GELC had 17 Division Winners in the 2008 Season and as recognition for winning their divisions, the Edmonton Rush are providing a complimentary ticket to each player and coach from the 17 teams for the February 22 game.

All current and new members of the GELC can take advantage of the GELC Family Pack available for $99.00 plus GST, which includes four tickets, four hot dogs and four soft drink coupons to the Colorado Mammoth vs. Edmonton Rush game on February 22.

In addition to the 3rd Annual GELC City Wide Registration, the 3rd Annual GELC/Rush Pee Wee Mini Tournament will take place on Sunday, February 22, 2009 at Rexall Place, starting at 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The two teams in the final will take to the floor at half time of the Rush game.

Additional Notes:

The Edmonton Rush announced yesterday a revision to its 2009 schedule to accommodate a potential NHL playoff conflict.

Calgary at Edmonton

April 3 at 7:00 p.m. has been rescheduled for April 11 at 7:30 p.m.

Portland at Edmonton

April 18 at 7:30 p.m. has been rescheduled for April 3 at 7:00 p.m.

Season ticket holders and single ticket holders will receive a package from the Edmonton Rush office which will contain labels adjusting the times, dates and opponents along with 1 complimentary fan appreciation ticket for each season seat held to the last home game of the season on April 11. A Rush representative will contact all ticket holders to confirm the process.

The Rush look to climb the ladder in the standings as Edmonton hosts the Colorado Mammoth Sunday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. at Rexall Place to kick start a five-game homestand.
