Chicago Rush News Release
For the third straight year, the Chicago Rush and the Salvation Army of Oakbrook Terrace joined forces to assist the less fortunate during the holiday season.
Wednesday morning, Rush assistant coach Walt Housman and equipment manager Jeff Henderson helped distribute donated gifts to some of the needy families of the western suburbs.
Jackie Mead, social services coordinator for the Salvation Army, was happy to see familiar faces from the Rush.
"I always appreciate my volunteers because the number of families in need has increased," Mead said. "We wouldn't be able to do this without their help. Now more families can enjoy a happy holiday."
Coincidentally, Housman and Henderson ran into two more Rush fans who also volunteered their time to help the cause.
Rush season ticket holder Ron Felt of Streamwood took time out of his busy schedule to help out, while 10-year-old Jake Cowl of LaGrange also brought smiles to the families taking home gifts.
"Helping out the Salvation Army is something I really enjoy," Housman said. "Being able to help out those who are less fortunate than most is a great thing."
Groups or organization wishing to schedule an appearance with a Rush player or coach should call Shawn Sullivan, Rush community relations manager, at (773) 243-3463.
