June 1, 2010 - Chicago Rush defensive back and kick returner Chris Martin has been named the Arena Football League's JLS Ironman of the Week for his performance in the team's 52-49 win at Cleveland Saturday night, the AFL announced today.
Martin made the play of the game when he returned a Cleveland kickoff 57-yards for a touchdown with just 14 seconds remaining, giving the Rush its sixth victory of the season. The return - Martin's first of the season for a TD - came after the Gladiators scored with 21 seconds left to take a four-point lead.
For the game, Martin finished with five kick returns for 137 yards - a 27.4 yard average per return - and the touchdown, along with four tackles on defense.
The Rush (6-2) returns home this Friday, June 4, to host the Southern Division-leading Jacksonville Sharks (6-2). Kickoff at Allstate Arena is set for 7 p.m. Good seats for the game remain available.
