Rapid City Rush News Release

(Wichita, KS) - Tonight, the Rush began their three-game road swing with a 4-1 win over the Wichita Thunder at the Kansas Coliseum. Miguel Beaudry made 35 saves for his third victory of the year. The game was the first of nine meetings between the squads this season.

The Rush came out flying in the opening period, jumping out to a 2-0 lead less than eight minutes in. Colt King got the scoring started at the 5:17 mark when he redirected a pass in behind Thunder goaltender Scott Campbell. Sending the rink-wide pass was Luke Erickson, while Les Reaney picked up the second assist on the play. Just two minutes and thirty seconds later, the Rush doubled their lead with a powerplay goal on their first powerplay chance. Reaney fed the puck down low to Brendan Cook who found Erickson in the high-slot for the one-timer. The goal marked Erickson's first of the season.

Although the second period had a combined total of five powerplay chances, neither team found the back of the net. The Rush led 2-1 heading into the final period

In the third, the Rush looked to get some insurance and they did just that while on the man-advantage. Reaney and Cook followed the same play from the first period as the pass down low set up a chance in front. This time the set up was to defenseman Jamie VanderVeeken who snuck down in behind the defense and buried the puck for a 3-1 lead. Blaine Jarvis added an empty net goal with twenty-one seconds left to bring the game to a 4-1 final. Assisting on the goal was Libor Ustrnul who collected his first point in his first Rush game.

The Rush went 2-for-4 on the powerplay while going a perfect 6-for-6 on the penalty kill for the game. The Rush have now killed off 22 straight powerplay chances over the last 4 contests. The Rush now move to 5-4-0 (10 points) tied for third in the Northern Conference.

Up next, the Rush continue their road swing as they take on the Tulsa Oilers on Friday, November 13th, the game is scheduled for 6:35pm Mountain Time.
