Chicago Rush News Release
The Chicago Rush and the expansion Austin Wranglers traded defensive specialists this week, with the Rush acquiring Kareem Larrimore in exchange for Cedric Walker, the Rush announced today.
"Larrimore is an outstanding athlete who can make plays both on defense as well as on special teams," said Rush head coach Mike Hohensee. "While it hurts to lose a player of Cedric's ability, with the loss of Antonio Chatman to the Packers we felt it was important to go out and get a solid return man who can provide the Rush with a double threat."
Larrimore, 28, originally a fourth-round choice of the Dallas Cowboys in the 2000 NFL draft, spent two seasons playing in the NFL before joining the AFL's Dallas Desperados in 2002. As an AFL rookie, Larrimore played in nine games for the Desperados, earning the job as the team's top return man and defensive specialist. Last season, knee and back injuries limited Larrimore to just seven games, but he still managed 26.5 tackles, two interceptions and four passes broken up.
The Wranglers selected Larrimore from Dallas in last week's AFL expansion draft.
Walker, who will turn 33 in February, joined the Rush for the final two regular season games of the 2001 season and became the anchor of the team's defense. He leaves Chicago as the team's all-time leader in tackles in a game (13), season (98) and career (166.5). In addition, his 470 career tackles ranks him fourth on the AFL's all-time list.
Training camp for next season will open in January 2004 with the regular season scheduled to begin the first weekend in February. Fans needing information about 2004 Rush season tickets beginning as low as $64 can call the Rush at (877) Rush-Tix (787-4849) or visit the team's Web site, www.chicagorush.com.
