Colorado Crush News Release

DENVER _ Four players on the active roster of the Colorado Crush in its inaugural season in the Arena Football league first caught the eye of the coaching staff when the team held a number open tryouts before the season.

The Crush will be on the lookout for more players trying to realize their dream of playing at the professional level when it conducts its second annual open tryout on Sunday, Oct. 26, at the Family Sports Dome, 6959 S. Peoria St., in Centennial.

New head coach Mike Dailey and his entire staff will be at the Family Sports Dome to evaluate the prospects, and while the club's roster is more clearly established than it was last season, Dailey said he and his staff will be looking "for a diamond in the rough.'

"Occasionally,' Dailey said, "you find someone with the athleticism, talent and drive to help your club, maybe a guy that just needs some more coaching and direction, and that's why we do this.

"This tryout is for everyone who wants to have an opportunity to play at the professional level and hasn't yet had the opportunity to show anyone what he can do. Maybe 30 or 40 years ago the NFL held open tryouts, but with the emphasis on scouting that no longer is the case. So this is sort of the last chance for a guy who feels he can play to come out and showcase himself."

The tryout will begin at 7 a.m. for prospective quarterbacks, wide receivers and defensive backs. Linemen, fullbacks and linebackers will begin their tryout at 11 a.m.

Kickers will not be evaluated at the tryout. Dailey and his staff will evaluate players in a 40-yard dash, short shuttle, long jump, bench press and other football-relate skills. There will be no contact drills.

The Crush this season will bring a number of players to camp for two-day tryouts as the season progresses, and Dailey said this open tryout likely will provide the team with a base of players for the in-season tryouts.

"I think it's very likely there will be some candidates in this open tryout camp whose next step will be the two-day tryout program,' Dailey said. "We'll narrow down the group to a list of players we believe may be able to benefit from that process."

Players interested in trying out must register, sign a waiver and release form and pay a $65 registration fee. Participants are encouraged to wear shoes suitable for artificial turf and bring their own water. Additional information is available on the team's website, coloradocrush.com.

Season tickets and single-game tickets for the 2004 Crush season now are available. For information, call 303.352.1000, or visit coloradocrush.com.
