'Runners Stomp Bulls in 6-2 Win

November 14, 2011 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Topeka Pilots News Release

The Topeka RoadRunners dominated the game from the opening faceoff and knocked off the first place Amarillo Bulls with a resounding 6-2 win on Saturday night.

With captain Cory Ramsey still out of the lineup as he recovers from injury, third year defenseman Chris Bond wore the captain's "C" on his sweater. He got the 'Runners started with his first goal of the season at 4:39 with a power play goal, assisted by Kyle Sharkey and James Ring. The 'Runners then netted their second shorthanded goal of the weekend as Dan Dupell used his speed to split the Bulls defense before burying a breakaway wrister on the blocker side, assists credited to Ryan White and Kevin Patterson. Amarillo cut the 'Runners lead in half on a Karl Beckman shot at 18:05 and Topeka led 2-1 after 1.

The second period was all RoadRunners. At 3:38, Ben Bahe fired a shot past Mike Taffe from the right wing, set up nicely by Ryan White and Kevin Patterson. Topeka's lead grew to 4-1 when Ryan White stepped off the left wing boards and ripped a shot across the body of the goalie and inside the far post at 10:38. The RoadRunners took the three goal cushion into the locker room after 40 minutes of play.

In the third, Amarillo showed signs of life when Brooks Behling blasted a onetimer past Peter Traber to make it 4-2 at the 4:16 mark, but the 'Runners answered with another power play goal by Ben Bahe on a give and go with Kevin Patterson at the 7:00 minute mark. Bahe completed the hat trick at 16:46, also on the power play as Brian Christie pulled the puck off the left wing boards and slid it to Kyle Sharkey who spotted Bahe wide open for the onetimer and a 6-2 lead. Peter Traber stopped 18 of 20 shots for the win. Amarillo saw their 9 game win streak snapped, losing in regulation for just the second time this season. The Bulls return to Topeka for the last time this season over Thanksgiving weekend.

Topeka (13-7-2) continues their homestand when Springfield (8-11-1) visits on Nov.18 and 19. The 'Runners swept the Jr. Blues earlier in the month. Game time each night is 7:05 and will be broadcast live on countrylegends1069.com and available for pay-per-view on nahl.fasthockey.com. A high speed connection is required.
