Texas Tornado News Release
The Texas Tornado spent this past weekend on the West Coast, with two games on the road against the Fresno Monsters. The team returned back to Dr Pepper Arena with wins in both games, and are now preparing for a South Division showdown with the division-leading Amarillo Bulls.
Friday, November 11th- Texas comes from behind in 3-2 shootout victory
The Tornado came into the weekend struggling somewhat on the road so far this season and had to battle against the Fresno Monsters once again on Friday. But a goal by Ondrej Kopta tied the game at 2 with just over five minutes to play in regulation, and the Tornado eventually won in a shooutout, 3-2. Joakim Jutras started in goal and improved his record to 8-1-2, making 30 of 32 stops in the victory. The Quebec native also held Fresno scoreless in the shootout to earn the win. After Fresno scored once in the first and again early in the second, the Monsters held a 2-0 lead into the final moments of the middle period. With seven seconds to play in the second, however, Mico Solorzano - who was playing in front of dozens of friends and family - scored to make it a one-goal game. Kopta's goal tied the game to force overtime, while the lone goal in the shootout was scored by former Monster Jordan Lovick.
Saturday, November 12th- Lovick nets a pair in 4-2 win
Lovick continued to haunt his former team in his return to the Selland Arena on Saturday, when he scored twice to lead the Tornado to a 4-2 victory. His first marker came in the latter stages of the first period to open the scoring. Jordan Greenberg, who is tied for fourth in the NAHL in points, scored 14 seconds into the second period to give Texas a 2-0 lead. Fresno came back with a pair of goals in the second, however, to tie the game at 2. But Lovick responded with his second goal of the game in the final period, while Michael Hoy added an empty netter for his first career NAHL goal. Reid Mimmack made 30 saves and got the win in goal.
Upcoming Games and Promotions
The Tornado will host the Amarillo Bulls on both Friday and Saturday this weekend. Friday's game will feature a pre-game ceremony to honor Tornado Head Coach and General Manager Tony Curtale on becoming the all-time winningest coach in United States Junior Hockey history. That night, the Tornado will also be hosting a canned food drive to benefit Frisco Family Services. Any fan who brings one non-perishable food item will get a complimentary ticket to that night's game. Saturday will be Military Appreciation Night presented by ERASE Enterprises. Active, retired or reserved members of the armed forces, police and fire departments will receive a complimentary ticket with special discounts offered for family members. Tornado players will also be wearing specially designed military style jerseys. Following the game, the jerseys will be auctioned following the game with proceeds benefiting the Boot Campaign (bootcampaign.com).
