Topeka Pilots News Release

Playing in the first game of a five game road swing, the Topeka RoadRunners scored early and often as they knocked off the Corpus Christi Ice Rays 7-1 on Thursday night in south Texas. Seven different players lit the lamp, beginning with Jordan Davis snapping home a sharp pass from Justin Hussar at 5:34 of the first period. At 10:06, with a delayed penalty about to be called against the Ice Rays, Andrew White punched home his second goal of the season with the extra attacker on the ice. Continuing with first period pressure, Zach Schrotenboer buried a power play tally at 11:10 and Topeka led 3-0 after one. Goalie Eric Rohrkemper turned aside all 11 shots he saw in the first, including a breakaway stop on Petr Stloukal.

In the second period the Ice Rays ramped up their attack, outshooting Topeka 15-5. It was the 'Runners who scored first in the period as Nate Milam rocketed a shot upstairs off a nice feed from Joe Van Antwerp at 13:12. Corpus Christi scored their lone goal at 15:50 as Kyle Hughes fired a snapshot home from the blue line. Topeka led 4-1 at the end of two periods.

In the third, the RoadRunners reasserted themselves, dominating the Ice Rays by outshooting them 14-5 and outscoring them 3-0. The first goal of the third period was a low blast by Andrew O'Leary set up nicely by Nate Milam at 10:56, then Justin Hussar blasted home a Jordan Davis pass on the power play at 12:56 for a 6-1 lead. The finishing touch was applied by Scott Moyer who wristed home a rebound at 18:34, his first Junior A goal. In the end, Eric Rohrkemper stopped 30 shots, picking up his 8th win (8-2-2) and pulling his GAA down to 2.43, 7th best in the NAHL. With the victory, the RoadRunners (44 points) are just one point out of first place, shared by Texas and Amarillo at 45 points apiece.

Topeka (21-8-2) meets Corpus Christi (13-18-2) for the second of three scheduled games on Friday night at 7:05 pm. Follow the action on countrylegends1069fm.com and watch online with FASTHockey.com.
