Topeka Pilots News Release

Former RoadRunner defenseman Aaron Gens has signed a tryout contract with the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League (AHL). He is with the Monsters in Oklahoma City Friday and Saturday and continuing to San Antonio for a Sunday afternoon game.

Gens, who holds the RoadRunner franchise records for most games played (171) and career penalty minutes (339) is a senior at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks. The Nanooks season ended last weekend when they were eliminated by Lake Superior State, and with help from his agent, Gens was set up to skate with the Monsters. "I'll be taking my classes online, and I'm just going to work hard to make the most of this opportunity", he said by phone Friday morning. RoadRunner Head Coach Scott Langer had Gens on his roster for 3 seasons plus, and is proud of Gens' accomplishments. "We are all very proud of what Aaron has done in his career. He certainly raises the bar for the generations of RoadRunners that follow."

Gens will wear #22 for the Monsters this weekend. Lake Erie is tied for 2nd place in the North Division. The Monsters are the AHL affiliate of the NHL's Colorado Avalanche.
