
Ruff Riders Officially Re-Sign Eight Players For The 2010 Season

ABILENE, TX. : The Abilene Ruff Riders announced on Thursday, October 22, 2009 that the team has officially re-signed eight key players for the 2010 season. The Ruff Riders registered a great inaugural season as part of the Abilene community by finishing 8-6 overall and reaching the post-season for the first time in the history of the organization. The following are the list of players that have re-signed with the Ruff Riders.
RB Carlos Alsup (6'2", 220 lbs.) Kansas State - Running back Carlos Alsup returns for his third season with the Ruff Riders after leading the team in total rushing yards (486) and rushing touchdowns (6) during the 2009 IFL regular season. Alsup additionally caught 10 passes for 62 yards and two touchdowns. Alsup finished ninth overall in the IFL in rushing yards and led the former Intense Football League in rushing yards in 2008.
WR Juan Reese (5'10", 180 lbs.) Central Oklahoma - Reese finished third on the Ruff Riders roster with 37 receptions, and finished second with 486 receiving yards and 14 touchdown receptions in 2009. Reese additionally registered 33 yards rushing in 12 games played last season.
DB Darvin Peterson (6'0", 190 lbs.) Commerce - Peterson finished third overall on the Ruff Riders roster in total tackles (42.5) last season. Additionally, Peterson recorded one tackle for loss, one interception and collected four pass breakups. Peterson led the Ruff Riders in total tackles and interceptions in 2008 when the team was based in Katy, Texas.
DL Larry Brown (6'3", 345 lbs.) Rice University - In 13 games played during the '09 IFL regular season, Larry Brown recorded 17.5 total tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss. Brown also recorded five pass breakups and three quarterback hurries. Brown played a key special teams role after recording two blocked kicks in 2009. Expect Brown to be a starter on the defensive line for the Ruff Riders in 2010.
WR/QB Randy Hymes (6'4", 220 lbs.) Grambling State - Hymes returns to the Ruff Riders for his second season following a 2009 season in which he played many key roles. In five games played in 2009, Hymes recorded eight receptions for 120 yards and six touchdowns. Hymes filled in at the quarterback position late last season including the first-round playoff match-up versus San Angelo. Hymes completed 12 of 32 passes for 84 yards and three touchdowns including 45 yards rushing and one touchdown. Hymes is a former NFL wide receiver where he spent time with the Baltimore Ravens, Jacksonville Jaguars and the Minnesota Vikings. Hymes additionally played for the Cleveland Gladiators of the AFL in 2008.
DB Danyell Robertson (6'1", 180 lbs.) Dodge Community College - In three games played with the Ruff Riders in 2009, Danyell Robertson recorded eight total tackles including an interception that was returned for 14 yards. Robertson will be competing for a starting defensive back spot in 2010.
DL Fred Thrweatt (6'5", 360 lbs.) Texas Tech - Thrweatt was a dominating presence on the defensive line for the Ruff Riders in 2009. In ten games played, Thrweatt recorded 12.5 total tackles, two tackles for loss, two sacks and five pass breakups. Thrweatt additionally recovered one fumble last season and he has previously spent two seasons with the Odessa Roughnecks of the IFL.
OL/DL Kevin Myers (6'3", 350 lbs.) Lane College - Myers split time in 2009 on both the offensive and defensive lines for the Ruff Riders. Defensively, he recorded five total tackles and one tackle for loss in four games played. Myers will be a returning starter on the offensive line in which he supplied consistent pass protection and run blocking last season for Abilene.
