Ruff Riders Dominate San Angelo To Win Second Straight, 59-20
ABILENE, TX: The Abilene Ruff Riders (3-1) won their second straight game on Saturday, April 25 by defeating the San Angelo Stampede Express (2-1), 59-20. Abilene got off to a fast start defensively when DB Joey Longoria intercepted Stampede QB Damion Carter in the first quarter. However, a Nick Pertuit missed field goal from 46 yards out could not get the Ruff Riders on the scoreboard. Abilene would turn the ball over on their second possession as WR Mike Carrillo fumbled the ball and San Angelo DB Nile Legania recovered the loose ball on the Stampede 16 yard line. Blake Timmons gave San Angelo a 6-0 lead after running in a touchdown following the turnover.
Abilene took over the ball game in the second quarter as the Ruff Riders got on the board with a safety following a holding penalty that was called on San Angelo in the end-zone. Abilene once again intercepted Damion Carter later in the quarter and the Ruff Riders capitalized as Quincy Carter found WR Fred Howze for a four-yard touchdown pass. Abilene led 25-13 at the half thanks to the tough Ruff Riders defense.
Abilene would explode for 25 unanswered points in the second half as QB Quincy Carter finished the game with a season-high eight touchdown passes. San Angelo WR Travares Williams was held to a season-low 14 yards receiving in the ball game thanks to the stingy Ruff Riders secondary.
Abilene LB Rico Brooks led the Ruff Riders defense with 8.5 total tackles including one sack, and three tackles for loss. Joey Longoria matched his previous week performance with two interception. The San Angelo Stampede Express had a miserable performance on the field and could not match the Ruff Riders intensity both on offense and defense.
With the win, the Ruff Riders are tied for the lead in the Lone Star Division with the El Paso Generals (3-1). Abilene will hit the road to begin a two-game road trip starting in Wichita, Kansas to face the Wichita Wild on Saturday, May 2. San Angelo returns home to face the El Paso Generals (3-1) in a Lone Star Divisional match-up.
