RSL Wins Kickoff Cup 3-0 Over Lobos PFC

SALT LAKE CITY (Monday, March 24, 2008) - Real Salt Lake used a pair of goals from MF Dema Kovalenko and a late insurance tally from FW Yura Movsisyan to post a 3-0 victory over Ogden-based club Lobos PFC in the first annual "Kickoff Cup" exhibition contest at Skyline H.S. in Salt Lake City. RSL fielded a squad consisting primarily of reserves for the match, which served as the final tune-up in advance of the squad's 2008 MLS season opener this Saturday, March 29, against the Chicago Fire at Rice-Eccles Stadium (4:00 p.m. MT).

Kovalenko started the scoring off in stunning fashion in the 20th minute, as he picked a failed Lobos clearance out of the air from 30 yards out with a volley that sailed into the upper right corner of the Lobos goal. Kovalenko would get his second of the match in the 84th minute, as his far post finish into the left side netting from a dozen yards out doubled the RSL advantage. Two minutes later it was Movsisyan taking his turn on the scoresheet, as he dribbled around four Lobos defenders before scoring on a well-struck, 20-yard effort.

RSL to Train Tuesday at Rice-Eccles Stadium at 9:30 a.m. MT

Real Salt Lake has updated its training schedule for the remainder of the week, with the team now slated to practice Tuesday morning at Rice-Eccles Stadium beginning at 9:30 a.m. MT. The players will then turn around to attend the Fourth Annual RSL Kickoff Charity Luncheon, taking place at The Depot, located in Salt Lake's historic Union Pacific Station (400 W. South Temple). The event kicks off at 11:30 a.m. MT with a reception and silent auction, with the luncheon program following at 12:00 p.m.

All players and coaches will be made available to media both immediately following the morning practice and at the Kickoff Charity Luncheon.
