Royals Sign Forward Danick Bouchard

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has signed forward Danick Bouchard ["boo SHARD"]. Last season, Bouchard (5'9/195) (23), who hails from Quebec City, Quebec, played for four teams-two in the ECHL and two in the AHL-and scored nineteen goals, picked up nineteen assists (thirty-eight points) and registered forty-five penalty minutes in sixty-six total games.

Bouchard, who will be entering his third pro season, began last year with the Florida Everblades where he scored eighteen goals (which included nine on the power play and six game winners) and assisted on nineteen others (thirty-seven points) in fifty-six games. While with the Everblades, Bouchard earned a pair of mid-season call-ups to the AHL, playing two games with the Albany River Rats and four with the Lake Erie Monsters. In late March, Bouchard was released by Florida and was claimed off waivers by the Royals. In his first game for Reading, on March 29, 2009, Bouchard made quite a splash, scoring the game's first goal and engaging in a fight as the Royals snapped a thirteen game winless streak against the Johnstown Chiefs with a 2-1 win. Prior to turning pro, Bouchard played five seasons with the Shawinigan Cataractes of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, where he racked up 114 goals, assisted on eight-three others (197 points) and picked up 222 penalty minutes in 292 total major junior hockey games.

The Royals open the 2009-10 ECHL season on Thursday, October 15, 2009 (7:05 pm) when the Kalamazoo Wings make their first visit ever to the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania.
