Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with defenseman Dave Cowan ["COW an"]. He is the seventh player-and second defenseman-announced as signed by the Royals for the 2011-12 season, joining forwards Phil Aucoin, Ryan Cruthers, Casey Haines, Olivier Labelle, and John Scrymgeour; and defenseman Denny Urban.

Last year, Cowan (6'4/211) (25), who hails from Calgary, Alberta, was signed by the Royals but sustained a pre-season injury that kept him out of action in 2010-11. The year before, 2009-10, Cowan completed a stellar four-year career at Robert Morris University. In his senior season at RMU, Cowan registered six points (1g-5a) and twenty-four penalty minutes in thirty games with the Colonials. A two-time captain at RMU, Cowan became the first graduate of the program to jump directly to the AHL when he played one game for the Norfolk Admirals after the conclusion of his collegiate season in 2010. Cowan, who racked up twenty-four points (3g-21a) and 142 penalty minutes in 111 total college games, was selected as RMU's Most Valuable Player, Most Inspirational Player and Defensive Player of the Year after his senior season with the Colonials.
