Rox Get Streak Snapped in Ugly Affair
June 11, 2016 - Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL)
Brockton Rox News Release
Brockton was riding a 5 game win streak entering tonight's game against the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs. A sixth consecutive win was in striking distance late in the game, but an unfortunate 9th inning helped Wachusett prevail.
The game was close in its entirety. The biggest lead for either team was when The Rox held a 2-0 lead after the third inning with RBI's from Andrew Calderone in the 1st and Trent Turner in the 3rd.
Brockton tacked on another run in the 4th inning with yet another RBI by Turner. But two consecutive innings allowed Wachusett to tie up the game. With James Muse on the hill, the Dirt Dawgs scored 3 runs, but none of them were earned. Errors, walks and stolen bases allowed the Dirt Dawgs to tie up the game.
Brockton looked to seize control of their opportunities. In the seventh inning, Jake Marotta walked with one out, and eventually scored with an error by Dirt Dawgs first basemen Angelo Navetta.
The Rox took a 4-3 lead in the 9th inning where they folded. Nathan Grant came in the game to seal the deal, but consecutive base hits by Nolan Hayward and Grant Hoover put the Dirt Dawgs in great position to take the lead. A groundout to second base by Ryne Ogren scored Hayward, and a wild pitch by Grant brought in Hoover to take a 5-4 lead.
The Rox had one last chance to send the game to extras or walk off with a win. Alex Perry started off the inning with a single, and eventually made his way to third with a bunt from Jake Marotta and a groundout to first base by Bailey Klein, but Perry never made it home as the Rox's win streak was snapped at 5.
The Rox look to get back to their winning ways as the final game of the four game home stand is tomorrow afternoon when the Rox take on the Bristol Blues. First pitch is at 4:05 at Campanelli Stadium. Come enjoy your Brockton Rox in action and come out for health and safety day!
