Tampa Bay Rowdies News Release
ORLANDO, Fla. - The Tampa Bay Rowdies fell 2-1 to Orlando City SC in a tightly-contested closed-door scrimmage Wednesday night, closing out a weeklong road trip.
Kyle Murphy gave the Rowdies the lead early in the second half, but a pair of Orlando goals in the 70th and 76th minutes gave the home team the advantage.
After a scoreless first half, Murphy seemed to give the Rowdies a lead in the 46th minute, finishing nice build-up play from Juan Tejada and Kevin Mendoza, but the offside flag negated the goal.
Three minutes later, Murphy scored a goal that stood with a classy move to round his defender and fire a shot past Orlando's goalkeeper. Murphy also scored in Saturday's 2-0 win over the University of North Florida.
The Rowdies made wholesale changes around the 60th minute, with Forrest Lasso, Tampa Bay's captain on the night, exiting the match.
Goalkeeper Evan Louro and center back Aaron Guillen were the only two Rowdies to play the full 90 minutes.
Tampa Bay will be back in action this Saturday with a preseason match against the Montreal Impact at 7 p.m. at Al Lang Stadium. That match will be preceded by Inter Miami CF vs. Philadelphia Union at 4 p.m. Admission to both matches is free of charge with no ticket required.
