Round One of the UIF Playoffs Begin Saturday

July 14, 2006 - United Indoor Football Association (UIF) News Release

#5 EVANSVILLE BLUECATS (7-8), at #4 OMAHA BEEF (8-7) - The Evansville defense continues to be on an impressive run as the BlueCats enter the Playoffs. Evansville held Sioux Falls to only 33 points last week, which represented the third lowest point output for the Storm this season. Evansville finished the season rated #5 in points allowed as they gave up an average of 39.9 points per game. They will have to look for Vernon Turner and some other to step up their game a little this weekend, as the leagues second leading tackler, John Winchester, will be watching from the sidelines after an injury against Sioux Falls to his knee. Aaron Leak had one of his best passing performances of the season last week as he threw for 187 yards and one touchdown. Omaha is playing dominant football as well entering the playoffs. The Beef have won two in a row to secure the leagues top wild-card spot. Their 39-point victory last week represented their second highest margin of victory of the season. The "Beefense" finished ranked #2 in the league for least points allowed. The Beef only allowed 33.2 points per game this season. The Beef and the BlueCats split their season series with one win apiece with the home team winning each game. Game time is slated for 7:05 pm CST on July 15th at the Omaha Civic Auditorium, the "Slaughter House."

#6 SIOUX CITY BANDITS (6-9), at #3 ROCK RIVER RAPTORS (11-4) - After an 0-3 start, the Sioux City Bandits did their job last week and got a win to put them in the UIF Playoffs. The Bandits get started on their way back to the United Bowl by playing Rock River for the first time this season. Quarterback Antoine Taylor has been the best of a platoon of players to take snaps for the Bandits this season. Taylor came back from injury to start last week and threw three touchdown passes in the victory. The Bandits defense has paced them all year. Sioux City's defense set a UIF record for lowest amount of yards allowed in a season. The Bandits allowed 2611 yards this season compared to the Ohio Valley Greyhounds record of 2703 which was set last year. Rock River's offense has been one of the best in the league all year. The Raptors are scoring 44.6 points per game, which ranks third in the UIF. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm CST this Saturday at the MetroCentre in Rockford, IL, the "Rock Pile."

The Sioux Falls Storm (15-0) took the number one seed this season and the Lexington Horsemen (13-2) captured the two seed. Both teams will have a bye week for round one and will host a semi-final game. The lowest remaining seed from the first round will travel to Sioux Falls for a July 23rd game at 3:05 pm CST. The highest remaining seed will head to Lexington for a July 22nd game at 7:30 pm CST. Be sure to check back to the UIF's Official Home Page throughout the weekend to see who will take on these two power houses next weekend!
