Rockford Rookie in UIF Playoffs
July 14, 2006 - United Indoor Football Association (UIF) News Release
Omaha, NE - The Rock River Raptors (11-4) started their 2006 season with a win, but wouldn't determine the fate of their season until the 7th week of play. The Raptors would trade wins and loses until week seven against the Bloomington Extreme. Ben Sankey started the season with an impressive showing completing passes for 469 yards, 9 TD's, and 0 interceptions. In week seven against Bloomington the Raptors would start a successful mid-season push with a 4 game winning streak. The Raptors would then travel to the Omaha in week eleven to attempt redemption from a week 6 hard fought defeat against the Beef. Omaha again would not be denied a victory with a 54-70 win over the Raptors.
The Raptors went on to fight hard to finish the season. The next 3 weeks of the season would test Rock River of their ability to maintain their composer and make a strong push for the playoffs. In weeks twelve, thirteen and fourteen the Raptors would bite and claw their way to victories all within the last quarter of play, and in two instances would seal a victory within the last minute of play. A win over Ohio Valley in the last week of the season would allow the Rock River Raptors to finish the season at 11-4.
The Raptors season was lead by the successful start and finish by Ben Sankey. Sankey finished the season only second to Matt Kohn of Ohio Valley with 213 completions and 2070 yards passing. Randy Bell had a very successful season for the Raptors finishing with 510 yards rushing and 3rd in the UIF with 23 touchdowns. The astonishing defense of the Raptors was lead by Ty Meyers with 40 solo tackles and Billy Cook with 6 interceptions.
Rock River (11-4) will start their post season play this weekend at home against the Sioux City Bandits (6-9). This week's first round playoff game is slated to start at 7:30 pm, CST at the MetroCentre.
