Cedar Rapids, Iowa- Cedar Rapids RoughRiders assistant coach Eric Rud will serve as an assistant coach for Team World at the annual United States Hockey League All-Star/Prospects Game Tuesday, February 3, in Lincoln.

Rud earns all-star coaching honors because the RoughRiders lead the USHL's East Division.

"It's great that the guys have played well enough in the first half that I get to make the trip to Lincoln " said Rud. "I'm pretty excited about that."

Team World head coach Bob Gernander- a Dallas Stars scout- will join Rud behind the bench in Lincoln.

The RoughRiders (22-13-2, 46 points) are currently one point ahead of the second place Chicago Steel in the race for the top spot in the east.

Rud is in his second season as an assistant to RoughRiders head coach and general manager Mark Carlson. Rud arrived in Cedar Rapids after completing a five-year professional playing career. Prior to turning pro, the former defenseman was a four-year standout at Colorado College. The Inver Grove, Minnesota, native was team captain his junior and senior years, a two-time Western Collegiate Hockey Association Defensive Player of the Year and a two-time All-WCHA selection.

Rud was a dominant player in the USHL a decade ago with the Des Moines Buccaneers. Rud and the Bucs won both the Clark Cup (playoff title) and Gold Cup (national tournament) in 1992. The following season he was named the USHL's Player of the Year, Defenseman of the Year and a member of the All-USHL first team.

Tom Rudrud of the West Division-leading Tri-City Storm will be Team USHL's assistant coach at the All-Star/Prospects Game. Former Minnesota North Stars coach Glenn Sonmor will be Team USHL's head coach.

The RoughRiders return to action Saturday night when they battle the Steel in Bensenville, Illinois. The RoughRiders' next home game is next Tuesday night at 7:05 against the Sioux Falls Stampede

Tickets for next Tuesday's game- and all of the RoughRiders' remaining home games- are currently on sale at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office. Tickets can be purchased over the phone at (319) 261-4625 or in person at the ice arena. The ticket office is open from noon to 5:00PM on weekdays and from noon through the end of the second period on game days.
