July 23, 2015 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
FC Tulsa News Release

Tulsa Roughnecks FC make their first-ever visit north of the border and return to the site of the Tulsa's biggest soccer accomplishment. The Roughnecks travel to Canada on Friday, July 24 to face Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 at Vancouver's Thunderbird Stadium. On October 1, 1983, the original Roughnecks were crowned North American Champions following a 2-0 victory over the Toronto Blizzard at Vancouver's B.C. Place.

The Roughnecks and Whitecaps 2 are both in their inaugural USL seasons, and both have had similar campaigns. The Roughnecks enter with 22 points and a 6-8-4 record, good for 10th place in the Western Conference standings. Whitecaps 2 are sitting in 7th place with 23 points and a 6-9-5 mark. Tulsa has two games in hand.

It will be the first of two straight matches between the sides. WFC 2 will travel to Tulsa the following week to face the Roughnecks at ONEOK Field on Friday, July 31.

The game will be broadcast live on Tulsa's Sports Radio AM 1300 with Jeremie Poplin calling the action. The broadcast can be heard online at 1300TheBuzz.com. It will also be shown live on YouTube channel.

WATCH PARTY - The official watch party for the match will be held at the Empire Bar at 1516 S. Peoria. The party is open to adults ages 21 and over. Empire will be offering $4 Modelo draft beers and $2 Bud Light drafts. The Tulsa chapter of the American Outlaws will be selling raffle tickets for the opportunity to win an authentic 1994 USA World Cup jersey. Tickets are $10 each or 3 for $25.

THE TWO TEAMS - The Roughnecks enter the meeting unbeaten in their last three outings. Tulsa posted a 4-1 home win over Orange County on July 9 and a 3-1 home victory over Colorado Springs on July 11. Last weekend, the Roughnecks drew 1-1 on the road against the Oklahoma City Energy in the latest round of the Black Gold Derby.

Whitecaps 2 also enter the match in good form, picking up 7 of a possible 12 points in their last four matches. The lone loss came last Sunday on the road in a 4-2 defeat to Portland Timbers 2.

BALLEW TRENDING - Brady Ballew picked up his third goal of the season in the draw with Oklahoma City last Saturday. Ballew now leads the Roughnecks with 9 points on 3 goals and 3 assists. So far this season, 12 different Roughnecks have scored a goal.

FEENER AND ONE - Jake Feener has now made three starts in goal for the Roughnecks and has allowed one goal in each of the three games. His save percentage of 87% would be second in USL if he had enough appearances to qualify for the league leaders.

OPEN GAME? - If stats are any indication, Friday's match should be an entertaining one for fans. WFC 2 and the Roughnecks are the top two teams in USL in shots this season. Whitecaps 2 lead the league with 251 shots (12.55 per game), while Tulsa is second with 240 (13.33 per game).

CLARK TO RETURN FOR WFC 2 - Whitecaps 2 have played their past three matches without leading goal scorer Caleb Clarke. Clarke, who has netted 6 goals in 17 appearances this year for WFC 2, has been away playing for Canada in the 2015 Pan Am Games.

The next home match for the Roughnecks at ONEOK Field is slated for Friday, July 31 against the same Whitecaps.
