Long Island Rough Riders News Release

Uniondale – NY - At a rain soaked Mitchel Field Athletic Complex the Long Island Rough Riders earned a hard fought victory over an accomplished New Hampshire side, writes Andrew Rogers.

In a tactical master class Coach Wiseman reshuffled his depleted squad to produce a controlled and balanced display. Both teams struggled to find their feet in the opening 20 minutes but once the game settled down they played some excellent possession soccer.

New Hampshire had the best of the early exchanges but Rough Riders GK Paul Grafer was equal to the challenge. In the 42nd minute Carlo Espinosa broke the deadlock with a well timed drive into the bottom corner. James Hunt who was excellent throughout the 90 minutes provided the cross.

In the second half the Rough Riders produced some very fluid soccer. What really impressed the seasoned observers and the fans was it was done without Cabrera and Caffrey and Chulis arrived from Virginia less than 24 hrs ago.

The Rough Riders deservedly extended their lead in the 73rd minutes through Etienne. He showed great instinct in following up a Higgins pile driver from 25 yards that cannoned off the upright.

The Phantoms being a side of real quality never gave up and the last period of play was frantic for Long Island when Hansen scored. However, Sullivan and Bradley held firm giving the Rough Riders the three points and extending their season to 2-0.

How about them Rough Riders!
