Long Island Rough Riders News Release

Washington, PA; July 24, 2005 - The Long Island Rough Riders earned the revenge they were seeking, defeating the Pittsburgh Riverhounds 1-0 Sunday night at Falconi Field.

The lone goal of the match came courtesy of team leading scorer Moussa Sy, who gave Long Island the lead in the sixth minute of action to bring his season total to nine goals in nine games. Sy took the ball himself, sliced through the Pittsburgh defense, and slid it past Riverhounds keeper Chris Robinson to give the Rough Riders what would turn out to be the golden goal.

Rough Riders keeper Paul Grafer earned his first shutout of the season, making six saves on the night. The Riverhounds had their most promising offensive push in the 42nd minute off a free kick near the corner flag, but it was easily cleared out by the Rough Riders defense.

The second half began with Pittsburgh in desperate need of a score to draw even. Riverhounds forward David Flavius kept Grafer on his toes early and often on in the half. In the 63rd minute Flavius turned away from his defender and drove a shot toward the Long Island net, catching Grafer off his line, but the shot was saved by the Rough Riders defense off the goal line.

The Rough Riders got their revenge for a dismal defeat at the hands of the Riverhounds on July 16, by a score of 4-1.

The next Long Island Rough Riders home game is Saurday, July 30th at 7:30PM when the Rough Riders take on the Charlotte Eagles at Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, NY.
