Memphis Xplorers News Release
Macon, GA --- The Memphis Xplorers were able to come back from a 19-0 first half deficit to take a fourth quarter lead, but couldn't hold on as the Macon Knights picked up a 38-33 victory at the Macon Coliseum Friday night.
Memphis, trailing 19-12 at the half, tied it on Greg Golden's 7 yard run at the 4:02 mark of the third quarter. The Xplorers tied it again at 26 early in the fourth quarter and then took a 33-32 lead after Brian Jones ran it in from 11 yards with just over 4 minutes remaining.
That would be the last time the Xplorers would see the endzone. It would be Macon who would score last, on a leaping over-the-defender catch by OS Chavis McCollister. McCollister finished with 7 catches, 5 for scores as the Knights split the season series with Memphis, improved to 5-7 and kept their playoff hopes alive.
The Xplorers fell to 9-4 and 3-3 on the road this season. Brian Jones attempted a career high 42 passes as Macon did a good job of taking away the deep ball and long pass plays that have been the Xplorers' bread and butter. Jones finished 26 of 42 for 260 yards 2 TD and 2 INT.
Terrance Quattlebaum had 9 receptions for 101 yards and a score. OS Kenny Higgins had the other touchdown reception for Memphis.
The Xplorers stay on the road next week with a Saturday game and a rematch of last season's ArenaCup game versus the Fire at Louisville.
