East Texas PumpJacks News Release
Dusty Ross may have Pump Jacks fans calling for a recount in the 2011 TCL All-Star selections after Monday night.
Ross took the mound in his third start and promptly shut down the Alexandria Aces, striking out 12 in five innings on the mound.
He carried a no hit bid until the fifth inning before allowing a single, the only hit he gave up in his effort. Ross struck out the side in three of his five innings, with one base runner reaching on an error before the fifth inning single.
A late arrival this season in his second summer as a Pump Jack, Ross has returned to East Texas in even more dominating fashion this season. The Missouri junior has given up only five hits in 13 innings, with 24 strikeouts. He picked up his second win, tossing 72 pitches of which 50 were strikes.
While Ross was handling his own, the Pump Jacks bats were doing the rest with the entire starting lineup posting hits.
With a franchise-high 11 Jacks named to this years TCL All-Star Game, the Pump Jacks posted 12 runs on 16 hits, winning their seventh contest in the past eight and moving to 7-0 against the Aces this season.
Beau Maggi extended his hit streak to seven games, knocking in three runs on a pair of hits to spearhead the Jacks scoring attack. Hunter Dozier continues his red-hot streak at the plate going 4-for-5 with a pair of RBIs. Kirby Pellant went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Ty Marlow had an RBI single and scored a pair of runs. Jace Statum reached base four of five times at the plate, scoring three. Ryan Moore raised his batting average by 100 points with two hits to round out the Jacks offensive attack.
Jaron Long came out to start the sixth inning and struck out a batter and allowed one hit in two innings. Jordan Hershiser came on in the eighth and allowed a single and a walk to start the inning.
The Jacks defense picked him up quickly with Scott Kalush gunning down an Ace attempting to advance on a stolen base and the infield took care of the rest with a perfectly orchestrated 5-4-3 double play. Hershiser came on in the ninth and sat down the Aces in order, striking out two.
The Jacks jumped out quickly, scoring five runs on five hits in the bottom of the second. Pellant scored on an error by the Aces starting pitcher Drew Middleton. Nathan Pittman scored on a Marlow single. Marlow teamed up with the speedy Moore on a perfect double steal, with Moore scoring easily to give the Jacks the 3-0 lead. Marlow and Statum scored on a single from Maggi to give the Jacks the 5-0 lead.
Moore and Marlow reached on back-to-back walks to start off the fourth inning. The Aces responded with two quick outs. And the Jacks did what they do best with two away ¬Â¦ score runs.
RBI singles from Dozier and Pellant, coupled with Aces errors and wild pitches gave the Jacks four more runs in the fourth inning, pushing their lead to 9-0 with Ross continuing to roll on the mound.
Pittman singled in the eighth and quickly stole a base before reaching third on a groundout. He came in to score on a wild pitch, giving the Jacks a double-digit lead.
Dozier and Maggi each smacked RBI singles in the seventh to complete the Jacks offensive outburst.
The Aces return to historic Driller Park for game two of the two-game set on Tuesday night with Family Night presented by the Longview News-Journal. Jacks fans can bring the whole family out for a night of fun and baseball, all for an affordable price. A group of four tickets are only $10 with the option to add four meals for another $15.
